Eileen O'Grady
Topic: Mortgages, the Mortgage Market, and the Effect on
Credit Unions
Eileen O’Grady, President, Elliott Bay Associates, developed her real estate, finance and capital markets skills in Seattle. Between 1987 and 1993, she was employed at Citicorp, Bear Stearns, Sears Mortgage Securities, and Deloitte Touche, developing expertise in interest rate and credit risk management, as well as mortgage structured finance. She formed Elliott Bay Associates in 1994, providing best practice business and technology consulting services to over 100 local, regional and national clients. Her clients include Credit Suisse First Boston, Washington Mutual, and the FDIC. Ms. O’Grady was EVP of the first online lender, Keystroke, and was the original sponsor of the BECU technology project from which Prime Alliance emerged. She is currently a strategy and technology consultant for Balance Sheet Solutions.

Ron Koza
Topic: Mortgages, the Mortgage Market, and the Effect on
Credit Unions
Ronald Koza, Chief Investment Officer, Members United, is responsible for activities undertaken by Asset/Liability Management, Lending, and supporting departments. The role of these areas is to provide investment and lending value to members while minimizing risk for the corporate. In addition to those duties, he serves on the corporate’s Asset/Liability (ALCO) and Internal Asset/Liability Committees (MALCO). With over 25 years’ experience in the investment arena, he has also implemented a wide array of investment certificate and share products for member credit unions. Previously, Ronald held executive positions at Society National Bank (now part of KeyBank), Ameritrust Company NA, and First Boston Corporation. |

James Toliver

Credit Unions
James Toliver, CFA, is Executive Director, Advisory Services with Balance Sheet Solutions, LLC. (a credit union services organization of Members United). With over 20 years’ experience in investments, capital markets, and financial services, he is responsible for coordination of investment advisory services and products. He got his start with Bear Stearns in the capital markets, then went to First Nationwide where he trained in each key function of banking. Thereafter, he served as CEO of NARDA Credit Union for nine years, Vice President/Controller for Motorola Employees Credit Union, and Director of Investments for Alliant Credit Union. He is a CFA Charter Holder, and is a member of the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago, and the CFA Institute. |

Tom Moore
Thomas Moore, CFA, is Executive Vice President, Members United Corporate FCU and President, Balance Sheet Solutions, LLC. In these dual roles Tom oversees Members United’s portfolio management, product structure and offerings, and lending areas. As President of Balance Sheet Solutions, LLC, Tom oversees and directs the investment sales, and investment advisory products and services. Prior to these positions, Tom was a Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration/CFO of Alliant Credit Union. During his 17 years there, he was involved in all facets of the credit union’s growth. In total, he has over 25 years of experience in the investments and financial services industry. He is a CFA Charter Holder, and is a member of the CFA Society of Chicago, and the CFA Institute. Thomas holds his Series 7, 24 and 63. |

Ron Collier
Topic: Growth - Credit Union Panel Discussion, SEG Growth
Ron Collier is CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union. Previously, he was Vice President of Planning and Development and Training Director. Under his leadership, numerous new products and services have been launched for members’ benefit and the credit union continues to grow. In 2006, Indiana Members celebrated 50 years in business and attained $1 billion in assets. Highly involved in charitable giving and community activities, Ron is on the board of the Indiana Make-A-Wish, the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, and is a member of the CUNA National Youth Involvement Board – among a multitude of other activities. He is also a member of the Credit Union Executive Society. |

Bill Hampel

Bill Hampel, senior vice president of research and policy analysis, and chief economist for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), directs a department that performs market research, maintains a financial database of credit unions, and conducts other research pertinent to the credit union movement. Shawn Hanson

Shawn Hanson is President/CEO of Marine Credit Union, a $350 million community based, state chartered credit union.He has served in this role at Marine since 2000 and has been in the financial services industry for 15 years. He is a member of the Credit Union Executives Society and has served on a variety of volunteer committees and boards, including the 7 Rivers Region Chapter of Credit Unions, Washburn Academy and SCORE. Larry Harmon

Kevin Hassett
Topic: The Economy at the Credit Union Level
Kevin A. Hassett is resident scholar and director of economic policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute. Previously, he was a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and an associate professor at the Graduate School of Business of Columbia University. He was an economic adviser to the George W. Bush campaign (2004) and the chief economic adviser to Senator John McCain during the 2000 presidential primaries. He currently serves as a senior economic adviser to John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. Previously, he was also a policy consultant to the U.S. Department of the Treasury (former Bush and Clinton administrations). Hassett is a weekly columnist for Bloomberg and his articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Atlantic Monthly, USA Today, Washington Post, and others. He has also appeared on the Today show, the CBS Morning Show, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Hardball, Moneyline, and Power Lunch. |

Rodney Hood
Topic: NCUA Update
Rodney E. Hood is Vice Chairman for the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Prior to joining NCUA, Mr. Hood served at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as Associate Administrator of the Rural Housing Service. Before his public service career, Mr. Hood served in executive positions at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, and Bank of America (Community Reinvestment Act Officer). Named a “Young Leader” in 2005 by the American Council on Germany, Mr. Hood was awarded a fellowship to join a transatlantic delegation to foster American-German relations. Recently, he was named one of the “40 Young Leaders Under the age of 40” by the Triangle Business Journal and received the first ever “Dream Award” instituted by the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation for outstanding commitment to affordable housing. |

Nick Perna
Topic: The Economy at a Macro Level
Nick Perna, Resident Economist, Members United, specializes in economic analysis, forecasting and strategy. He has served in the position of economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, General Electric and a number of major banking institutions. The Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek have each twice cited Perna as one of the top economic forecasters in the United States. He has been an economics professor at Williams College and New York University and currently teaches an economics course at Yale University. In addition, he has also appeared on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, CNN, CNBC, the NBC Nightly News, ABC Radio and NPR’s All Things Considered. |

Tom Slefinger
Topic: How to Buy Bonds and Marketable Securities
As Senior Director of Trading, Tom’s primary focus is to assist member credit unions in optimizing their investment performance by identifying securities and strategies that are appropriate for their risk/return parameters.
Prior to joining Balance Sheet Solutions, Tom was a Senior Vice President and Principal of Van Kampen Investments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for managing their Quantitative Risk Management Department, and overseeing the development and implementation of portfolio strategies and risk processes across a diverse family of fixed income funds with assets approximating $25 billion. Also, as a senior fixed income portfolio manager, Tom was responsible for successfully developing and managing various global funds, as well as managing one of the largest mortgage funds in the country.
Prior to Van Kampen, Tom served as Director of Fixed Income Investments at Midwest FinancialGroup, and as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Harris Trust. In total, Tom has over 25 years of success in institutional fixed income management, and has extensive expertise in managing all types of international and domestic fixed income securities.

Chuck Smith

Chuck Smith is the Senior Vice President and Director of Lending for San Antonio Federal Credit Union (SACU). Chartered in 1935, SACU is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas with branches in Houston, Texas. SACU has assets of $2.5 Billion and approximately 230,000 members. Mr. Smith has over 25 years’ experience in the financial industry. Since joining the credit union in 1994, he has been part of the management team that has seen the loan portfolio for the credit union grow from $575 million to over $2.3 billion. |

Alonzo Swann
Topic: Key Regulatory Devlopments: An Update
Alonzo A. Swann III is the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) Regional Director of the Region III, Atlanta office. He is responsible for the oversight of the chartering program for federal credit unions, and the examination and supervision programs for federally insured credit unions in his region. Swann joined NCUA as an examiner in 1983 and has held various positions since, including associate regional director of field operations (Chicago). He also spent four years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and currently is a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserves. Swann is married with three children and four grandchildren. |
