Growth - Credit Union Panel Discussion

Hear firsthand from three fellow credit union leaders as they discuss strategies they have implemented to promote growth. You will want to compare your situation to that of our panel, and listen as they share the choices they have made and the results of those choices. Victories, failures, lessons learned – their experiences add up to some powerful insight. Eileen Cherry Clark is Director, Business Development for Baxter Credit Union. She and her team have achieved continuing success in their efforts to strategically grow targeted Select Employee Group (SEG) membership. To do this, they have developed SEG-specific communication channels, expanded and deepened SEG relationships, and hosted visible, noteworthy events. Eileen speaks frequently about business development, receiving high marks for her presentations at the 2004 Credit Union Journal BD Conference, NCUA events, and for an intensive, two-hour ICUL Audio Seminar (rated “Outstanding”). In April 2008, Eileen spoke at the Grow Show. She is co-founder of ICUL’s Illinois BD Round Table.

Shawn Hanson is President/CEO of Marine Credit Union, a $350 million community based, state chartered credit union.He has served in this role at Marine since 2000 and has been in the financial services industry for 15 years. He is a member of the Credit Union Executives Society and has served on a variety of volunteer committees and boards, including the 7 Rivers Region Chapter of Credit Unions, Washburn Academy and SCORE. To achieve the strategic vision of Marine Credit Union, he works actively with its Board of Directors. Under his leadership, Marine has founded several CUSOs and is pursuing aggressive expansion plans.

Chuck Smith is the Senior Vice President and Director of Lending for San Antonio Federal Credit Union (SACU). Chartered in 1935, SACU is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas with branches in Houston, Texas. SACU has assets of $2.5 Billion and approximately 230,000 members. Mr. Smith has over 25 years’ experience in the financial industry. Since joining the credit union in 1994, he has been part of the management team that has seen the loan portfolio for the credit union grow from $575 million to over $2.3 billion.
